Grief Support

supporting adults

Adult Support Services

The death of a family member or a friend can be a time of many feelings, reactions and adjustments. Depending on the nature of the relationship and the circumstances of the death, reactions may range from shock and despair to relief and acceptance. We offer individual counseling, support groups, special events, information and education to support the needs of the community.

On-going Grief Support Services

  • Grief Counseling – Individuals, couples & family grief consultation, education, information and referral.
  • Grief Support Volunteers – Trained grief support volunteers provide individual support & companionship over a 2-month period.
  • Eight Week Grief Support Group (evening and daytime) – a safe, structured place to share with a consistent group.
  • Spousal and Partner Loss Support Group –an 8-week group for those who have had the loss of a spouse or partner
  • Parent Loss Support Group – an 8-week group for adult children who have experienced the loss of a parent.
  • Sibling Loss Support Group – an 8-week group for those who have experiences the loss of a brother or sister.

Child Loss Grief Support Services

  • Infant and Pregnancy Loss Group – for mothers and fathers grieving the loss of a baby.
  • Child Loss Group – for parents who have experienced the recent death of a son or daughter of any age.
  • “Staying Connected Over Time” Group – for parents who have processed the early stages of grief.

Special Workshops and Series

  • Family & Friends – When Someone You Love is Sick – this supportive drop-in group is for family and friends of someone with a life threatening illness. We will share experiences of coping with a loved one’s illness, learn self-care techniques and receive information about community resources.
  • Hospice of Petaluma –1st and 3rd Thursday of each month – 4:00-5:00 pm.
  • Memorial Hospice – 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month – 4:00 – 5:00 pm.
  • Beyond Words – This 1-day workshop offers an opportunity to explore the unfolding of your grief experience. It will be a quiet day for honoring your relationship with a family member or friend who has died. No art experience is needed.
  • Historical Loss Workshop – A workshop for those who have experienced the death of a loved one some time ago and wish to explore, through talk, writing and creative expression, the meaning of this loss in one’s present life.
  • Holiday Blues – The holiday season cam be a particularly stressful time for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Hospice of Petaluma and Memorial Hospice are offering a six week drop-in group for people in grief who would like additional support and help with getting through the holidays.
